Iconverter Editor's Review
Iconverter is a free tool that allows you to create icons very easily.Initially, the application was developed to handle the ICNS file format. The current application has the support for various file types. The supported file types are JPEG, TIFF, PNG, GIF, and ICO, as well as a built-in support for ICNS.
The interface is very simple. It provides you a simple button that allows you to load the source file or the source directory. If you pick a source directory, then a batch process option is available for this kind of operation. You can either extract the icon from a file or use its contents if it is an image file type.
The destination file/files settings are also easy to set. Pick the output file format, as well as choose whether or not to create a thumbnail or draw a background. The color for the background can be set in a few mouse clicks.
If the application has all the required parameters to obtain the desired operation, all you have to do is click the extract button. If you closed accidentally the panel that has that button, you won't be able to use that button. The solution is ether the combination Command (Apple)+S or pick the right item from the Iconverter's Mac menu.
Pluses: it creates icons fast and easy, it can extract an icon from a file or from its contents, if it is a file type.
Drawbacks / flaws: closing the preview panel makes the 'Extract' button to go away. The solution is the Mac menu of this application or the appropriate key combination.
In conclusion: if you need a program that creates icons in a few mouse clicks, this application might be the solution.
